Well I just have a bit of good news to share: after about two years of getting absolutely nowhere where my play submissions were concerned, I finally got a nibble. I submitted my short play to manhattantheatresource for their EstroGenius Festival. This is part of the letter I received the other night:
“Thank you very much for submitting your work to the 9th Annual EstroGenius Festival, scheduled October 1 through November 1 at manhattantheatresource (the source). We received more than 300 plays for only 15 slots, and the caliber of submissions was extremely high, making our decision extremely difficult.
“Although we did not choose your piece to be part of the festival this year, your submission was one of a very select few that were given serious consideration. It has been named a finalist for the festival. Congratulations. Final selection ultimately had more to do with programming considerations than the merit of the individual work.”
I admit that makes me feel very happy. Okay, so it’s not a hard win, but at least it’s something! Woo hoo! I have my babies out and about being read by several other prospects, and I should be hearing from them within the next few weeks. So hopefully I will be back with more good news. Until then, mes amis, dream well.
